Sarah Palin is the candidate I have
chosen to do this blog assignment on for Coms 307. Palin is a mother of five
kids, Bristol, Willow, Trig, Track, and Piper and is married to Todd Palin who
owns a fishing business in Alaska. Palin was born in Idaho but moved with her
family to Alaska at a
While governor of Alaska she was
chosen as running mate to John McCain for his 2008 presidential election. This
would be considered valuable experience if she does decide to run in the 2016
election as she has already been through a campaign cycle as a running mate.
She also has an appeal to the religious right side of the Republican Party. She
created a Political Action Committee (PAC) for herself called SarahPAC. On
sarahpac.com it says that Palin stands for Energy Independence and that U.S.
Foreign Policy should be based off of the “National interests, not the interest
of others” She has spent the past few years as more of an activist for others
rather than running her own campaign which has sent her all around the country
including Kansas where she publically backed Pat Roberts as the Senator for
Kansas.
Most recently Palin has been giving
speeches such as the one in Des Moines, Iowa. The Washington Post described it
as a “34 1/2 -minute roller coaster ride of clichés, non sequiturs
and warmed-over grievances” and continued with “One line that stood out: “GOP
leaders, by the way, you know, ‘The Man,’ can only ride ya when your back is
bent. So strengthen it. Then The Man can’t ride ya” statements like this caused
the Post to question her candidacy and said she has lost her fans. However it
is still possible for Palin to attempt to make a run for the Presidential
nomination here in the following months.

What stood out to me was that Palin created her own action committee. Not a lot of candidates or politicians do this on their own. She is very determined and i don't care what people say she is entertaining and people are evoked by here. Whether they are talking good or bad. They are still talking!
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I loathe Sarah Palin, lol! However, I do respect her tenacity and resiliance to her harshest critics. I too find it interesting that she created her own action committee. That is definitely not seen very often. I don't see a future in the White House for Palin. She is great at the colloquialisms and little quips, but I feel she lacks the experience and substance of knowledge that we need in a leader of our country. Thanks for the post! ReplyDeletePalin is definitely a different character. She seems to walk to the beat of her own drum and disregard most other thoughts. Do you think that she can be taken seriously enough though to run after having had a reality TV show? I feel like many people see her as entertainment and not a candidate. Good job Hankus.
ReplyDeleteWhether or not Sarah Palin ends up in the White House, she is definitely interesting and intriguing to people. Her reality TV show put a different "spin" on how the public viewed this possible Presidential candidate. It is interesting to note that she has spent the past several years as an activist for others, rather than running her own campaign.
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin is by far the most fascinating political figure of the past decade. You do a good job of capturing some of that here. I don't think she is interested in a presidential run, do you? I think she is looking to keep her platform up so she has a voice and influence in the next election.
